Northampton General Hospital has a well-established Iodine-125 Prostate Brachytherapy Service which has treated over 500 patients since May 2002.
An intra-operative method is utilised, with all treatment planning performed in theatre during the implant, and the vast majority of patients are treated as day cases. The intention is to continue to perform implants in this way, using I-125 seeds. This specification indicates the equipment, radioactive materials and support services required to continue this service. It is anticipated that approximately 200-250 patients will be treated over a 5-year period.
