Short description of nature and quantity or value of supplies or services:
Within the framework of an intended procurement for a novel generation of High-Power modulators, ESS is pleased to invite you to a market consultation organized in Paris on the 27.10.2015.
Objective of the market consultation:
By 2020, ESS will built the most powerful neutron source of the world. Based on an in-depth needs assessment it became clear that this will directly affect the required power density and associated modulators. Consequently, ESS envisages the launch of a procurement procedure for the development of the next generation of High-Power Klystrons Modulators. Different challenges have to be solved in respect to the size, weight and volume of the modulators and in particular on technological level both on functional level (pulse width and stability, electrical grid) and non-functional level (reliability of the system, the maintenance/repair).
To accomplish this historical mission ESS decides to organize in 1st instance a market consultation to interact and cooperate with potential suppliers/stakeholders to detect and discuss possible typologies, critical technical choices to be made and to evaluate the feasibility of such high complex systems.
More information can be found on the ESS website (https://europeanspallationsource.se/procurement) and in Section II.8)
Launch of a Pre-commercial tender:
Based on insights and findings gathered during the market consultation session, ESS will consider the launch of a Pre-commercial Procurement (PCP) in order to produce a prototype of the envisaged solution. PCP is a procurement method that addresses a challenge, requiring radical innovation, for which no solution is available on the market. Additional information on PCP will be provided at the market consultation.
