Description of the procurement:
The Research Centre Jülich (referred to as JÜLICH in the text below) has been contracted by the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) to design, build and commission the High Energy Storage Ring for Antiprotons and Ions (HESR) close to the campus of GSI (“Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung”) in Darmstadt, Germany. The HESR is operated under UHV conditions. In the antiproton mode, secondary particles generated by collisions between the circulating antiprotons and the atoms of the residual gas have to be removed from the beam tube. This is done by applying some hundred volts to electrode pairs arranged in horizontal or vertical orientation. They are housed in a vacuum chamber. The complete device including feed-throughs and removable electrodes is called Ion Clearing Chamber (ICC). The ICC design allows baking up to 250oC.

74 of these chambers in 4 different lengths have to be produced, assembled ready for installation, tested, documented and delivered to JÜLICH. The details are given in the specification. Accelerator specific material is supplied by JÜLICH.
