Institut National des Sciences et Techniques Nucleaires (INSTN)

INSTN (Institut National des Sciences et Techniques Nucleaires) enjoys an original position in the French educational system. An institute of advanced education within the CEA, it was originally designed mainly to train engineers and researchers already involved in their professions at EDF, in the nuclear industry, and at the CEA, in leading-hedge technological disciplines which neither the University nor the engineering schools had yet developed.

Nearly half a century later, in the full maturity of the nuclear industry, alongside standard academic teaching organized by itself or together with the universities and engineering schools, INSTN has set up a broad range of further education relying on the skills available at the CEA and in other organizations and industries, and, for the nuclear power sector, at EDF, Framatome, Technicatome, Cogema and SGN.

The international aspect has not been overlooked, because after the courses organized at Saclay alongside the IAEA, intensified European cooperation is now on the agenda for the teaching at the very heart of INSTN's mission.
