BLUEGRASS NUCLEAR MISSION STATEMENT:
Founded in 1993 Bluegrass is a specialized concrete demolition contractor utilizing diamond wire sawing, robotic hammers and concrete shavers. Current R&D activities include metal cutting in the nuclear industry. With locations strategically placed throughout the United States, we are committed to satisfying the needs of any project.
EXPERIENCE:
Bluegrass has substantial experience working in contaminated nuclear environments ranging from commercial SGRP’s to Plant Decommissioning, DOE sites ranging from Hanford where we performed a Large Scale Demonstration Project to Argonne National Lab where we supplied robotic services on the EBWR in 1994; as well as daily operations throughout the heavy industrial and civil markets. Projects that include bioshield wall removal are Sandia National Lab, Big Rock Nuclear Plant, Surry Nuclear Station and Trojan Nuclear Plant. We are currently supporting Bechtel’s nuclear decommissioning activities at Ct. Yankee in both concrete removal and reactor nozzle cutting. Bluegrass also successfully completed an innovative technology demonstration of diamond wire cutting of the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor Vacuum Vessel in August of 1999 (a full technology summary report on this project is available at the OST web site at http://ost.em.doe.gov under “Publications” reference # 2389). Complete project details are also included in the attached Past Performance and Experience List. We are also currently performing a second mockup of the Tokamak Reactor in August 2000.
MANAGEMENT:
With an experienced management team and 25 wire saw technicians ( 14 with nuclear experience, 21 with 40 hour Hazwoper), 25 wire saws and 16 robots, Bluegrass is uniquely capable of both understanding the challenges of your Project and effectively utilizing the appropriate technologies to most efficiently and safely complete the task.
SAFETY:
Bluegrass has an exceptional commitment to safety and a spotless safety record including a 0.73 EMR. In five and a half years we have had zero lost time accidents and no workmen’s compensation claims. This record has been achieved through scrupulous hazard analysis before and during the work process, followed by post contract review, continuous investment in training, and a corporate culture wherein workers understand that good safety practices enhance productivity.
