Short description:
As part of the German contribution to the European spallation source ERIC (ESS), which is being built in Lund, Sweden, the client directs the planning and construction of a neutron radiography / tomography system (ODIN). Part of the ODIN system is a neutron chopper system for neutron wavelength selection. The subject of this call is the design, development and presentation and —after successful acceptance of the design by the client in a Critical Design Review (CDR) —production and delivery of 9 (nine) neutron choppers in 5 (five) Single and 2 (two) double housings, the production and supply of a suitable control and monitoring system, the installation of the system at the ESS in Lund, Sweden and finally a complete introduction to the operation of the overall system in Lund, Sweden.

Main site or place of performance:
Design, development and production as well as initial acceptance test at the contractor site. Installation, final test and acceptance as well as training for the chopper system in Lund, Sweden.

II.2.4)
Description of the procurement:
The supplies and services to be provided by the contractor comprise 4 service packages:

Service Package 1:

1. The design of nine neutron choppers, five single and two double housings, as well as an appropriate control and monitoring system.

1.1. The design of nine neutron chopper discs in four different sizes.

1.2. Design of a single chopper housing, which can be mounted hanging.

1.3. Design of a chopper housing scalable for three different chopper disc sizes. The housing can be split horizontally, so that the lower part can be integrated into the ODIN neutron guide. The upper part contains the chopper disc and can be removed for maintenance.

1.4. Complete drawings and documentation for points 1.1-1.3.

2. Development of the chopper system

2.1. Development of non-standard components, when necessary.

3. Presentation of the preliminary design/development.

3.1. Presentation and discussion of the overall system design/development in Lund, Sweden in a Critical Design Review (CDR)

3.2. If necessary, modification of the design according to the requirements of the CDR and repeated presentation of the revised design.

Service Package 2:

4. Production of the choppers:

4.1. The production includes the complete chopper system as well as the control and monitoring components.

4.1.1. Within the scope of production, the version of the ESS regulations (CHIM and CHIC) valid at the beginning of production is used. In the case of a revision of one of the above-mentioned regulations or standards, additional costs caused by these changes and all risks, especially deadlines, shall be borne by the client.

4.1.2. The scope of services includes the preparation of all necessary documents, the execution of all measures in connection with the production as well as the execution of the necessary tests and their documentation.

4.1.3. The documentation and operating documents to be supplied to the client include the manufacturing documentation, handling instructions and vacuum test and controls test documentation.

4.1.4. The handover of the manufacturing documentation to the client is made in the following format: one original, one copy and one digital copy as a PDF file (CD, DVD or USB storage medium)

5. Production of chopper motor control, monitoring system and accessories:

5.1. The production includes:

5.1.1. Chopper control system Hardware with interface to the ESS CHIC standard.

5.1.2. surveillance systems:

5.1.2.1. vacuum sensors

5.1.2.2. vibration sensors

5.1.2.3. temperature sensors

5.1.2.4. Bearing condition sensors

5.1.2.5. Cooling water flow sensor

5.1.3. Accessory:

5.1.3.1. Complete cabling

5.1.3.2. Housing vacuum seals including lids for the lower part of the horizontally split housings

6. Inspection of all components at the contractor site

6.1. Vacuum test of all housings

6.2. Functional test of all components including sensors

7. Delivery and installation of the entire system

7.2. installation

During installation at the ESS, the contractor must adhere to the accident prevention regulations as well as the generally accepted safety and occupational health rules during installation on the grounds of the ESS in Lund.

Service Package 4:

8. Examination, Site Acceptance Test (SAT)

8.1. Vacuum test of all housings

8.2. Test the integration of the control and monitoring systems into the ESS-CHIC system

8.3. Functional test of all components including sensors

9. Training of the client's personnel

The scope of services includes the implementation of a theoretical and practical training for the proper operation of the chopper system. The contracting parties agree on the training program in advance by mutual agreement.
