II.2.4) Description of the procurement: The European Spallation Source is a European Research Infrastructure (ERIC) committed to the goal of building and operating the world leading facility for research using neutrons. Once constructed in Lund, Sweden, it will provide new opportunities for research in a broad range of scientific areas, including life sciences, energy, environmental technology, cultural heritage and fundamental physics. Construction started in July 2014, aiming at the source producing first neutrons around 2020.
As part of this facility, the Pit Lids form an integral passive part of the Active Cells. Maintenance Cell Pit Lids provide shielding to protect workers in the Maintenance Cell from radiation hazards in the Storage Pits and Waste Transfer Hatch and PIE Lids are on the Active Cells primary boundary and protect workers within the Technical Galleries and Transfer Area from radiological hazards.
