II.2.4) Description of the procurement: The UK Atomic Energy Authority is a non-departmental government body carrying out research into the potential of nuclear fusion as a future source of energy. 1 such fusion experiment is the Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST), which has recently undergone an extensive upgrade programme referred to as MAST Upgrade (MAST-U).
The MAST Upgrade Enhancements (MAST-U ENH) project will further develop the capability of MAST-U. Part of this package is a Cryoplant required to support the cryopumps installed inside MAST-U and the future Double Beam Box (DBB) Cryopumps. These systems permit effecting pumping of all gaseous elements within the vessels improving vacuum quality during physics campaigns.
The Valve Box is central to the distribution system for cryogens, both Gaseous/Liquid/Supercritical Helium, and Liquid/Gaseous Nitrogen. Due to the complexity of this core component there are several methods that can be used to achieve the same goal. Information is sought to inform the final design and achieve the most efficient solution in both cost and functionality.
The scope of work for the design and build of the Valve Box could include (but is not limited to): detail design work encompassing regular progress meetings, comparison of proposed solutions and work to manufacture and deliver the result.
This PIN has been published to enable market research to commence to assess the reaction of the market to the proposed requirements and review available technologies. The Authority will conduct a dialogue with the marketplace. This may result in a call for competition based on the content of the requirement achieved through the dialogue.
The following documents provide further detail regarding the description of the requirement.
